Wedding and Engagement Photography, Marco Island, Naples, Sanibel Island and Fort Myers, Florida

Doreen answers frequently asked questions about wedding photography

Let's take a peek at some common Q&A on your big day.

Where do you work?

Usually I am photographing weddings and engagements on the west coast of Florida from Marco Island, Naples, Sanibel, Captiva to Fort Myers. However, I do travel frequently for wedding photography. I have recently shot weddings in Hawaii, Puerta Vallarta, Mexico, Las Vegas, Cape Cod, New York, Connecticut, Chicago and Indiana. I am scheduled to photograph weddings in San Francisco, Paris and Ireland later this year. I love traveling so if you're planning a wedding outside of the area and enjoy my photography, please give me a call.

What style of photography do you shoot?

I shoot a combination of candid and formal photography. This gives your wedding a timeless look. I use off camera lighting that gives your wedding portraits a dimensional look. I specialize in romantic and sunset wedding photography. We have the best beaches and sunsets in the country here and your wedding photography will reflect it.

Do you shoot digital?

Yes, all of my images are digital. I photograph everything in color and each wedding collection I offer includes the full size, ready to print images both in color and black and white with releases to print.

Do you edit your own images? Do you design your own albums?

Yes, I handle every aspect of your photos which includes editing photos, cropping, and color correcting. I am a "boutique" operation, which means I actually edit and process my own images, design my own albums and do my own photography.

Do I get every image that you take? What do you edit out?

I deliver the images that complete the story of your wedding. I take more photos then I deliver. This is because some of those images will have people blinking, talking or turning their heads and some will be duplicates.

How do you dress?

I dress nicely to blend in with the guests. I try to be as unobtrusive as possible and usually wear dark attire. Even at casual beach weddings I dress professionally.

Will you ever send a associate to photograph our wedding?

No, I photograph every wedding. You are hiring me for my expertise and creativity and I deliver. For larger weddings I also bring a second photographer.

What if we cancel?

If I am able to reschedule another wedding on your date I will refund your retainer. If not, there is no refund.

Do I have to feed you?

When I am with you for a 6 or 8 hour day I would appreciate a meal. Most wedding venues have "vendor meals" which are usually turkey sandwiches and are fine. They usually seat us in an adjacent room or lounge where we are not far from the action.

What do I need to do to book you for my wedding?

I require both a retainer and signed contract. This guarantees your date. A $1000 retainer is required for larger weddings and 50% for smaller weddings. The complete balance is due one week before the event. I accept cash, checks, MC and Visa. Since I book my dates on a first come, first served basis, I do not hold dates until I actually receive both a signed contract and retainer. However, if someone else requests my services on your date, I will inform you beforehand.

Do you have a second shooter?

Yes, I do have a second photographer who accompanies me on all of my larger weddings (6 and 8 hour collections). The benefits of having 2 photographers are so we can be in 2 different places photographing (I can be shooting the sunset shots and she can be shooting the cocktail party, etc).

If I want a sunset wedding what time should I schedule the ceremony?

If you schedule your wedding one hour before sunset we will have time for the ceremony, guests to congratulate you and some formal family images before the romantic images of you and your husband. If sunset is late in the day we can do the wedding and then go to the cocktail party and return to the beach for sunset. Call me if you have particular questions.

How long before we see our proofs?

I only photograph a certain amount of weddings each year so I am always caught up on my work and give your wedding my full attention. Unlike most photographers who take 6 weeks to 3 months to see your images, mine are usually online within a week. Look on my blog a few days after your wedding and I usually have some sneak peek images there.
